A Visitor asked the following question on 2/17/2007
I have five Chihuahuas! Two are adults, and their three 5 month old puppies. One of the puppies has developed, white, crusty ear tips with little tears on them. Can you tell me what this is and what causes it. None of my other Chihuahuas have it. Is it contagious? Can it be treated at home, or does she need to see our vet? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank You for your time and advice!

Are the pups near a heat vent? Are the other pups grabbing his ears? Is your home very dry?
I live in a cold winter climate and keep my house humidified in winter to prevent dryness of skin. Some dog foods do not have enough omega oils. I use an oil suppliment on the food from a pet supply store.
