7/31/06 According to the American Kennel Club, there is only one type of chihuahua, and that is the Chihuahua. Two hair types are accepted, both long and smooth coat, and the breed standard weight is 2-6 pounds. There are many breeders who use the term "teacup" to describe the smaller chi's, but in reality a teacup chihuahua doesn't exist because there is no official weight, size or height standard for this term. Breeders also use descriptors to describe head and body shape, such as "applehead", "deerleg", and "cobby", but these are not official terms. There are many chi's who weigh over six pounds, they are still chihuahuas, but they cannot compete in breed confirmation shows, but are chihuahuas nontheless. I hope this helps. Jeremy & Ellane
