A Visitor asked the following question on 5/24/2004
I have a one year old Basset Hound that I just acquired (neighbor could not keep him because no dogs allowed)...He is a great pooch, very smart..I am having a very hard time taking him for a walk. Throughout the whole walk he continues to pull me from tree to tree..or wherever he wants to stop and smell. I cannot get him to walk at a normal pace beside me. A little faster is ok, but we both are very worn out after the walk because he pulls very hard and fast the whole time with his nose to the ground. I am very afraid he I will hurt him becuase of the pulling. Would a harness leash be better? I really do not want to put a choke chain on him.
I do not want to give up the walks because he absolutely loves it! Help!
