There is been much new information that seems to support the idea of waiting until after at least a year to 14 months based on the hormones are necessary for proper bone growth as well as other issues. If you can wait, that is what I would recommend. Vets ususally will recommend by 6 months mainly to help with unwanted litters and irresponsible pet owners.
