Is it better to get a puppy or an adult dog? I have found a breeder who is getting rid of some of her adult show dogs. We are looking for a pet. I want to do the right thing.

Depends on what you want. I've brought Boxers home as puppies and young adults...no matter what age, they tend to work out just fine.
Some prefer an adult to avoid the puppy stage. Some prefer a puppy because they feel they can build a stronger bond (in my experience, the bond between me and the older dogs I've brought home is just as strong as is with the ones who came in as puppies) or they just want the chance to raise a puppy.
With a retired show dog, chances are you'll be getting a well mannered, well socialized dog...this will be much less work than a puppy and the dog shouldn't have any problem bonding with your family.
