We have always had 2 dogs together.
BUT...... we have always found it best to have one dog for a while first (in some cases over 2 years) so that you can get to know him and his traits, and likewise he can get to know and trust you, before introducing a new dog to the family.
To have 2 dogs together straightaway is not usually a good idea, and can often cause more problems than it solves.
