What purpose does a bloodhound's slobber serve?

The slobber serves no purpose that I know of, but it goes part and parcel with that huge sensory organ of a nose, and those hanhing lips. Any dog who mouth corners hang, St. Bernards, Mastifs drool. THey can't help it, they can't keep it in. Some drool more than others, just like people! LOL
