A Visitor asked the following question on 2/13/2008
Hello,
I have a two year old 13" beagle who has swayback. His front legs are very short and there is a dip in his back at his shoulders that goes uphill to his rear end. He also walks and runs sideways. He displays no pain to the touch or when we walk him. I am concerned about him though because he does not have a proper gate like our other beagle and can't seem to keep up like her. I don't want to injur him by over exercising him on our hikes. Will I injur him or do I need not worry about him? Any information is helpful. Thanks so much.

This sounds like the result of a bad breedng
operation, or puppy farm. This is a good example
of the unfortunate situations that arise when people buy puppies from unscrupulous breeders. As long as your deformed dog isn't in pain, there
shouldn't be any additional problems from lots of
exercise. Consult your vet if you have further
questions.
