WE have a boat and my daughter wants a medium dog that likes the water. Do beagles swim and do they like it? - bdb

Beagles are not typically considered to be dogs that are fond of water. That's not to say they won't go tearing across a creek to get to a rabbit on a line, but of course this is not the same as swimming. I do have one person who bought a beagle puppy from me who had labradour retrievers who swam. Eventually that little puppy learned to swim too, and would even go kayaking with the family. However, this is uncommon for a beagle, and he clearly had other dogs who helped teach him about the water - something he probably wouldn't have done on his own. If you are looking for a dog that likes the water, while a beagle may learn to be good in the water, I would recommend looking for another breed of dog.
