how often are beagle females in heat in a year?

9/15/05 We have two females, one comes into heat every 6 1/2 months like clockwork. Our other female is in heat about every 8 to 9 months. Some dogs might be shorter. They will spot blood at the beginning of their heat cycle and be in full heat ready to breed in 5-7 days from the first spotting. This will last about 7-10 days. All thing vary with individual dogs. 12/1/07 The last answer was great. Just to add, not all females will drip blood. Even those who do will not necessarily drip at the very beginning of their heat. Therefore, I would recommend looking for enlargement of the vulva as well (they usually start to "look big back there"). Barb
