Yes, they can be - like all dogs *and* children one of the most important things is the way they are raised. You can always ask the breeder of ANY breed if they have sold puppies to people with children - and ask for references. I have some great pictures that have been sent to me of Afghan Hounds that are family dogs, cuddled up with children, cats, puppies and small dogs.
