How did you hear about us/were you referred?
So you are looking for a Havanese! :) For companion? Agility? Therapy work? Showing? For the wife? The kids? Yourself? Just to smooch?
Do you have a strong preference as to male, female, color, age or size?
Are you working with another breeder? Please always be honest when visiting multiple breeders so they may take precautionary steps to protect their dogs - specially when there are unvaccinated puppies on the ground.
Who lives at home? Ages?
Where will your puppy be during the day?
How about in the evening?
How many hours on average will he/she be left alone?
Is there a fenced yard, will you walk or both?
Do you now, or have you had a dog before?
Please tell me about previous pets and their status.
Do you have a vet reference?
What is your time frame for getting a puppy? Are you willing to wait for a litter to be born? (It's great fun to get weekly updates and watch them grow!!)
Will you take your Havanese with you when you travel? If not, who will care for it?
So how did you arrive at the decision of getting a Havanese? Have you met one in person? What do you like about them, what are you concerned about?
Thank you for avoiding pet shops, designer breeds, & brokers w/multiple breeds! It's hard to learn everything about one! Be sure your breeder health test their breeding stock and doesn't over breed. As VP of www.havaneseclub.org I hear so many sad stories. So, get to know your breeder. You owe it to your dog, after all they'll probably be your FAVORITE family member!! ;)
